SEND Strategic Review- June 2018
Children and Young People Scrutiny Committee Report – June 2018
We’d like to share a report from the recent Children and Young People Scrutiny Committee meeting on the strategic review of SEND provision.
The report is a summary of all the information gathered during the review – including the MPCF surveys and our Working Together event, as well as information from young people, schools and colleges, and through groups such as the Local Offer Review Board.
The report is quite a lengthy one but one very important part of it is that the local authority executive has agreed that Manchester City Council can use an additional £20 million of its basic need capital funding to build new specialist provision over the next few years. This is in addition to the £2.9 million already allocated by the Department for Education (DfE) for spending on new SEND building projects.
We would like to thank all parents and carers who take time to respond to the surveys as well as those who attend our events and the joint coffee mornings. The feedback gathered continually informs how and what we do. We record all your feedback and our response to it, in the, ‘You Said We Did’, area of the Local Offer.
We are immensely grateful for the contributions from the Manchester Parent Carer Forum members, Parent Champions, and all the parent / carers and young people who involved themselves. The surveys/events as well as the Forum’s strategic role in groups such as the Local Offer Review Board, SEND Board etc, are really valued and this has been acknowledged within the report.
