The Federation of Jewish Services: 'The Fed'
The Fed is the leading social care charity for the Greater Manchester Jewish Community.
We are its safety net - offering a place where Jewish people, of any age or background, can turn when they are vulnerable or suffering hardship.
We provide outstanding, professional care, support and advice which is sensitive to the cultural and religious needs of Jewish people, and appropriate for people of all levels of observance.
Annually, our services touch the lives of more Jewish people than any other social care charity in the region. 1 in 7 Jewish households, or over 6,500 people, benefit from our support, as do 150 older people living at Heathlands Village, and Moorview.
There are two main strands to our work:
- Community Services which support people
of any age living in their own homes - Care of older people at Heathlands Village and Moorview
Community Services offer:
- Support in times of urgent need such as homelessness, mental health crisis, poverty or
domestic and sexual abuse.
- Information, advice and support to help people live independently
in their own homes, or to access benefits and grants.
- Services to relieve loneliness and social isolation and to aid mental wellbeing through
individual support, befriending and groups.
- Services to help children develop and thrive such as our Project Smile Play and Learn groups and
holiday camps, Mums ‘n’ Tots sessions and individual parental support and guidance.
- Support for people who are caring for a loved one, including enabling them to take a break
from their responsibilities.
- Support for Holocaust Survivors and Refugees in recording and publishing their whole
life stories in book form and film, and in speaking about their experiences - My Voice.
Heathlands Village offers:
- A home for older people in our beautiful, modern care complex in Prestwich, Manchester.
- Different levels of care and support, ranging from regularly popping into tenants who live independently in our Moorview Community; to providing them with practical support and personal care; to 24 hour residential, nursing or end-of-life care and specialist residential or nursing dementia care.
- Respite or permanent care.
- Care for people who are either publicly or privately funded.
- Bliss - our Moorview bathing service which is available for use by the local community
