Bridge College
Bridge College is a further education day college in Openshaw, Manchester. We support students aged 16 to 25 years with a range of needs, including learning difficulties, disabilities, complex health needs and autism.
We work alongside young people and those around them to develop their skills, independence and confidence. Our mission is to help students make a successful transition into adulthood.
With our state of the art campus, we have access to a wide range of leisure and community facilities in Manchester as well as parks and open spaces. This means our students can learn in lots of different settings and develop the skills needed for life as an active and valued young adult in your community. Students can experience our hydrotherapy pool, our sensory rooms and our rebound room within a wide programme of activities.
The effective multi-disciplinary assessment informs the young person’s learning programme and identifies the appropriate learning environment and support strategies. This actively enables the young person to engage in a range of challenging and fun sessions. Schools. Parents/carers and other agencies are invited to path planning meetings to support transition and consistency from college to home environments.
Our belief is that everyone should have the chance to achieve their potential, there are no exceptions.
Our college is part of Together Trust, a charity that is approaching its 150 year anniversary of working with young people with learning disability and autism.

Most students think about applying in their last year of school, however it can take time to decide whether Bridge College is right for you and to have a full assessment of your needs, so it is a good idea to arrange to visit us well before this. Our advice is to apply in plenty of time.
Places are usually funded by the EFA and the local authority for students with a Learning Disability Assessment or Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), although individualised budgets can be used for specific services.
Sometimes applying for a place at a specialist college can be hard because lots of questions are asked and you will be asked to consider alternatives – even if you don’t think they are right for you and are not your first choice. Don’t let that put you off – ask for help by contacting the Admissions Coordinator at Bridge College.

At Bridge College, we are the only Makaton Centre of Excellence in the North West. We have been judged by The Makaton Charity to be using Makaton signs and symbols to a consistently high standard across all areas of the college and we have a high number of qualified Makaton trainers.
At Bridge College, we will offer bespoke, person-centred support to ensure that you can enjoy your education to the full. We will enable you to learn in a positive environment that always focuses on what you do well and what you bring to the Bridge College community.
