Brain Injury Rehabilitation & Development (BIRD)
B.I.R.D. is a charity, offering specialised treatment to children and adults with brain injury and/or learning diffiuclty, since 1982.
B.I.R.D. regularly works with people with conditions including, Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Dyspraxia, ADHD, Dyslexia, Cerebral Palsy, Irlen Syndrome, Non Specific Learning Diffiuclties, Developmental Delay and acquired brain injury.
Service users are assessed at B.I.R.D. and treatment recommended accordingly. Therapy comprises an ‘exercise’ based, treatment programme, which is performed by the individual within their own home on a daily basis. Treatment programmes typically take 20-30 minutes to complete each day and are non-invasive.
Service users who are successful in implementing a daily programme of treatment regularly report improvements in activities of daily living, including improved academic development, improvements in social, communication and behavioural development, improved mobility as well as improved health, sleep and mental health.
Families seeking treatment at B.I.R.D. are asked to make voluntary donations towards the cost of their treatment.
Patients do not need a referral, and can contact B.I.R.D. directly for more information. There is currently a 6-8 week waiting list for treatment. Children must be over two years of age, and there is no upper age limit.
