Debdale Park (Gorton)

Debdale Park is a green and tranquil haven amid a busy urban area, and offers an exciting range of sport and leisure activities. In 2008, Debdale Park was awarded a Green Flag Award for achieving the national standard for parks and green spaces.

This popular park hosts an annual bonfire and fireworks display, a family carol service, Easter egg hunt and a Halloween fun event. The dedicated Park Warden service offers a wide range of educational and environmental activities for children.

Based around Gorton reservoirs Debdale Park is the perfect setting to provide a natural home to local wildlife. It has great diversity of wildlife, including a large number of birds and insects. The park also has many trees and numerous bird and bat boxes positioned around the site. Wooded areas are being managed to provide a natural habitat for wildlife combined with an outdoor learning experience for children.

Debdale Park has a variety of formal horticultural features that includes a rockery at the main entrance, herb garden, formal bedded area and rose garden.

Improvements made to the park in 2006 included the installation of additional signage throughout park and lecterns at all entrances, refurbishment of the former Aviary to create a community room, the installation of kissing gates at all entrances to make the park safer, and the installation of additional play equipment in the children's play area.

Groups who regularly use the park include the Friends of Debdale Park, Manchester Learning Disability Partnership and Debdale Bowls Club.

The nearby Debdale Outdoor Centre offers a huge range of water based activities, including certification opportunities.
