Picton Walk (One Manchester)

The Sheltered Housing Warden Service offers older people their own accommodation and independence with peace of mind. Homes are offered to tenants through Manchester Housing Re-housing service.

There are 32 schemes across Manchester, which offer different types of accommodation, mainly in one-bedroom flats. This ranges from flats in garden complexes to multi-storey blocks, bungalows and larger schemes with up to 165 flats.

Most schemes have facilities, which tenants can use if they so choose. These include: communal lounge, laundry (free of charge), extensive gardens and small kitchen for making snacks and drinks. Most schemes are located near to all the usual facilities for transport, shops, leisure and health services.

Each scheme has a warden who works at the scheme Monday - Friday during the day. The warden is there to make regular contact with the tenants to ensure that they are safe and well. The wardens can alert family, friends and other agencies when tenants are in need of additional help, support and advice. The warden also ensures that the communal areas are maintained to a high standard. They also help organise a wide range of social activities and leisure activities for tenants.

There are plenty of sheltered housing schemes available in Manchester so prospective tenants do not have to wait long for a home, unless they want to live in a very popular area. The Sheltered Housing Service is supported by a wide range of policies and procedures, which ensure that the service runs smoothly. When the warden isn't at the scheme tenants can contact the Community Alarm Service for advice and support. The scheme is located at: ALEXANDRA PARK - Will Griffiths Court
