We are a charity providing newborn baby starter packs (packed into Moses’ baskets) for vulnerable pregnant women. The type of women we help are typically either homeless, fleeing domestic abuse, refugee/seeking asylum, in financial crisis or similar disadvantage.

The Moses basket starter packs contain everything a new mum and baby would need, including nappies, clothes, blankets, breast pads, maternity pads, toiletries for mum and baby, hygiene products, treats and gifts, whilst also providing a safe place for their baby to sleep.

The women must be referred to our service by a Health and Social Care professional or charity. We can accept referrals from the whole of Greater Manchester.
The starter packs need to be collected by the referrer (or a colleague) from our collection points in either Sharston or Salford.

All referrals to our service must be made by email first to ask for our referral document.

Referrals MUST be made by the health/social care worker or charity responsible for the care of the pregnant woman.

All referrals to our service must be made either via our online referral form www.earlyessentials.org.uk or by emailing info@earlyessentials.org.uk to ask for our referral document.

Referrals MUST be made by the health/social care worker or charity responsible for the care of the pregnant woman. Referrals can only be taken from 32+ weeks gestation. The person making the referral must be able to collect the starter pack from our base in Sharston (we can offer an alternative collection point in Swinton)

The women you refer must fall into one of the following categories and be at least 32+ weeks pregnant -

  • Homeless
  • Refugee
  • Fleeing domestic abuse
  • In serious financial
  • Or similar disadvantage

You will need to tell us which category she falls into as part of your referral.

For us to be able to sustain this service long term, we ask that you only refer for women that you genuinely feel need our help. We are a small charity and want to ensure that they are going out to the women that need them most.

When you refer, we need to know a line or two about her circumstances for our monitoring purposes (doesn't need to include names, just a general idea) we will be unable to process your referral without this information.

Also please let us know if you need a boy, girl or neutral hamper. They are usually packed into Moses baskets so also let us know if you'd prefer to have it packed into a baby bath (if we have one in stock)

It will then need to be collected from one of our collection points in either Sharston or Salford (you need to tell us which) by yourself or a colleague within 7 days of us informing you that it is ready (if not collected within 7 days it will be reallocated to someone else)

We are not able to offer a delivery service.
