Central Falls Service (CFS)

The community falls service comprises three nursing sisters and two staff nurses experienced in care of the elderly and in assessing the needs of people who have fallen. The team provides a service to anyone over the age of 18 who has had a fall, or is considered at risk of falling, and is either registered with a central Manchester GP or lives in the central Manchester area. When the CFS receives a referral the team will assess the information provided and, if appropriate, contact the person to arrange a time to visit. During the initial visit a specialist assessment is undertaken to identify risk factors associated with falling. The nurse who visits will discuss ways of minimising the risk of a fall with the person and/or their carer. The nurse may also make referrals other relevant organisations.
