National Extension College

Life-changing learning from the National Extension College

Founded in 1963, the National Extension College has provided high-quality, supported distance learning courses for over 55 years. Over this time, whilst developing and utilising innovations in technology and learning, our mission has remained the same; to ensure that education is accessible to everyone, and to enable individuals to fulfil their full potential. We are proud of our legacy and reputation, but most of all, we are proud of the thousands of students we have helped support over our many years to succeed and achieve their ambitions.

Meet our students

“The flexibility of the course was a definite highlight. From day one with NEC, I was guided step-by-step and talked through the whole process... I felt I had the whole package.” - Najma, GCSE English Language/GCSE Maths

“I would never have attended Cambridge and Edinburgh without the additional grades from my NEC A levels. The support I got from my tutors there remains unsurpassed.” - Miranda , A level English Literature/A level Classical Civilisation

“I know how hard it is to decide with whom to study when embarking on distance learning. For anyone unsure, I can now wholeheartedly recommend NEC” - Maurice, IGCSE Combined Science

Exams and assessment

As an approved examination centre, NEC is pleased that we can take away the headache of organising and locating a centre to sit exams with our unique examination entry service. NEC have also produced an Exams Handbook which provides information for all students preparing to take exams as a private candidate. As an approved centre we are also able to deal with both exams and non-examination assessments (NEA):

  • Written exams
  • Oral exams
  • Coursework
  • Practical science endorsements
  • Spoken language endorsements

Our commitment to you

NEC is committed to helping you succeed in your studies, whatever your reasons for enrolling. We will:

  • Provide you with impartial, professional and accurate advice before, during and after enrolment.
  • Ensure all course materials and associated documents you receive are relevant, up-to-date and compliant with current specifications.
  • Allocate you to a tutor who will provide high quality assignment feedback
  • Be approachable, reliable and honest in all of our dealings with you — from letting you know about additional costs to telling you if we get something wrong.
