BIG Manchester service

Big Manchester offers an innovative child- focussed service to families in North Manchester to address the impact that domestic abuse, parental mental ill health and/ or substance misuse has on children aged 5-11 in a household.

Funded through the national lottery’s Improving Futures programme, the project is led by Barnardo’s, with 4 family intervention workers employed by Women’s Aid, Eclypse (CGL Manchester), Manchester Mind and Barnardo's – bringing together their knowledge and expertise under the banner of Big Manchester.

Trialling new ways of engaging with families through the use of spot purchasing of chosen activities and services via personalised family budgets, Big Manchester offers a very different kind of service to families.

We will undertake direct 1:1 work and resilience based group- work with children, focussing on feelings and understandings of family difficulties, whilst enhancing the parents/ carers understanding of the impact these issues have had on their children.
