Young Carer Friendly 1st Wythenshawe Scout Group

Scouts Logo

We are a young carer aware organisation and our group Scout Leader is also the Young Carer lead for Early Help, South Manchester and so is fully aware of some of the challenges young carers face and also the barriers and is well placed to connect young carers to additional support if needed.

We will always understand and be here to listen and connect you to the support you might need, but importantly assure you that you can take part have the same access to opportunities as your peers who do not have caring responsibilities - we know you are a young person first!

We offer Scout Groups from age range of to 4 to 14 and can offer young leader opportunities for young people 14+ our sessions take place throughout the week (see below for the date, time and age range).

We are also looking at supporting our young leaders to become young carer mentors, befrienders to help remove some of the barriers around attending our sessions and having someone to talk too.

We will include on our registration forms a question to ask if you are a young carer, this can help us to identify you sooner – we know lots of young carers who have attended our Scouts group.

Who are the Scouts?

Scouts are do-ers and give-it-a-go-ers. Yes, we go camping, hiking, swimming, abseiling, cycling and canoeing. But we also get to hang out with our friends every week – having fun, playing games, working in a team and taking on new challenges.

Every week we give almost half a million 4-25 year olds the skills they need for school, college, university, the job interview, the important speech, the tricky challenge and the big dreams: the skills they need for life.

Everyone is welcome here. All genders, races and backgrounds. Regardless of your child’s physical ability – there is a Scout adventure out there waiting for them. And we will help them find it.

At 1st Wythenshawe we offer a program of informal education with an emphasis on practical outdoor activities, including camping, woodcraft, aquatics, hiking, backpacking, and sports and most importantly opportunity to meet new friends, learn new skills and test your limits.

There is a £12 cost for monthly membership, however if you are a young carer and if you are not able to afford the monthly membership, please do speak to us - we will see what we can do.
