Manchester Community Transport

Manchester Community Transport (MCT) is a not for profit transport provider and has been working with the people of Greater Manchester since 1982. The MCT approach is simple; people need transport to get around. But of course, this is not always easy; some communities are unable to access good public transport for numerous reasons: - Geographical isolation, living in a rural area or on estates where there is no public transport; - No access to a car; - Physical restrictions such as disability or some people not being as young as they once were; and - Cost

Under contract to Transport for Greater Manchester, and being at the forefront of door to door Demand Responsive Transport, developing new technologies to improve services for passengers. Beyond that, MCT work with a number of partners to develop and deliver specialised services including:

NHS Pilots for patient transfer and visitor accessibility;

Shuttle Services to connect people to remote and poorly connected employment centres; - Connection Services linking people from poorly connected communities to major transport hubs;

Health and Well Being services such as First Stop (mobile smoking cessation and health check-ups);

Pathways to Employment – a development route way for volunteers to develop the skills, qualifications and experience to secure sustainable employment in transport; and

Working with Sports Foundation supporting young people through sport and education. As an organisation that does not make profit, there are occasions where the surplus MCT generate can subsidise travel for community groups that MCT determine to be of value to the people of Greater Manchester.
